chronic sinus problems after cheek fx

I had a trimalar fx of my left cheek in 1991 & also my nose.  I had my cheek repaired with a plate near my ebrow area.  They did not want to mess with my nose until after this healed and I had 3 septorhinoplasties in order to corret the nasal fx and get my septum straightened out.  My problem is that ever since I have constant sinus issues.  I have constant sinusitis.  I do have allergies also and have been treated by an allergist and my regular dr.  I have tried everything from allergy shots, to nasal sprays, meds and a combination of all.  They have even tried long term maintanence dose of antibiotics, and steriods.  Most of these have failed and anything that helped would only be temporary.  CT scans always show inflamation and that all of my sinuses are full.  Any suggestions??  Would like to be able to breath through my nose again, and not have constant headaches!  Thanks for any input.

Thanks for your reply.  The dr. that I saw that treated me for allergies is also an ENT surgeon.  He told me that unless he could clear up my allergies he would never know if there was an underlying problem.  That even if he did sinus surgery I would most likely be back in the same place if I did not resolve my allergies.  I have tried everything for my allergies and I am no further ahead.  Does any of this seem right to you?

Your sinus symptoms are consistent with an anatomic problem - not allergies!  The traumatic injuries have most likely altered the drainage of your sinuses which is normally into the back of the nasal cavities.

An ENT surgeon (Otolaryngologist) can perform a simple examination in the office to determine if the opening is blocked.  Sinus surgery is usually very successful.
