parotid gland infection

I went to the dentist today and he told me that i have an infected parotid gland..  im seeing a doctor tomorrow, but i've read up on it today an it's got me worried sick.  Does anyone know if it's true that some of the leading causes are HIV and herpes?

I've had a superficial parotidectomy about 3 weeks ago. I still feel lightheaded (dizzy). I also have pain in the parotid area (not very severe but enough to warrant painkillers). There's also a rash which is not terrible but a little annoying which has spread from the site to the side of my face on the cheek near the near. I've had a constant headache for the last three weeks since the surgery and while none of the symptoms are terrible, the combined effect of them all is making me 'not so good'. Are these symptoms normal?

Those are definitely NOT the leading causes of parotitis.  Bacterial infections and salivary stones are the most common causes of parotid gland infections.
