Repair/reconstruction of an old acl injury.

by rpberr00, Nov 04, 2009 10:33AM
I have an old torn ACL injury from 19 years ago, which i would like to repair.  I'm now 39 years old. Can i still have it repaired?  What would be any issues regarding an old acl injury repair/reconstruction?

Many of the ACL reconstructions we do during the course of a year involve old injuries. One issue that should be addressed is the present of any post-traumatic arthritis.  If this has created a deformity in the knee, then this must be treated befor the ligament is reconstructed.  Otherwise, the issues are basically the same.
