Can you tell the age of a meniscus tear from an MRI?

I had an MRI after a work-related injury to my knee.  The MRI report showed a horizontal tear to the anterior horn of the medical meniscus.  The radiologist said that he was unsure of the age of the tear.  Is there a way to date the tear from looking at an MRI?
