Growth plates in 14 year old

Our son had a hand xray tonight, the doctor came back with the results and before telling us the results, told us that the xray showed that his growth plates were massive and he had a hell of a lot of growing still to do.  He's only 14, he's 6' 1 tall, size 13 (UK) in a shoe.  He plays rugby, so being tall helps, he was telling the doctor about a Glasgow rugby player who was 6'10 tall and the doc didn't look surprised when my son said he'd like to be that tall.  I'm 5'8, my husband is 6' tall and my 19 year old nephew is 6'7 Is there anyway to tell how tall my son may be when he's fully grown?

Predicting growth with xrays, involves taking a series of standardized xrays over time and then comparing them to published normals. The an estimate can be made as to how much growth is left. An accurate prediction cannot be made from a random single xray.
