What is a GP likely to do with a wrist complaint?

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow with a wrist problem, symptoms are a tingling, niggling pain at the wrist which travels up towards the elbow and down towards the hand and fingers. Pain worse at night.

Besides from the obvious examining the wrist, what is he likely to do? I'm just curious really, I'm an 18 year old female if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

This sounds like it may be carpal tunnel syndrome, or another related nerve compression syndrome.  Your doctor will examine you, possibly take xrays. If he suspects CTS, they may order additional tests such as an EMG to measure nerve function.
