Can synvisc be injected into your thumb ?

Synvisc is part of a group of products known as viscosupplements. They are derived from Hyaluronan, which is present in high concentration in joints, and serves to lubricate the joint surfaces
I am not familiar with any studies documenting the use of viscosupplementation in the small joints of the hand.  Although I am sure it is being done by many hand specialists, it is an "off label" use of the product.  This essentially means it is a use not currently recognized by the FDA, and would likely not be approved by your insurance carrier.
