MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
A bone island is an area of dense bone that is usually found on an xray taken for another reason. This is known as an incidental finding. They are benign, do not cause pain, and are rarely cause for alarm.  As far as I know, there is no reason for surgical excision of a bone island.
