16 year old scaphoid fracture - Please Help

Hello everybody,

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. On July 17, 2009 my son fractured his scaphoid bone in auto accident. It was cast and eventually needed bone graft and pin on 4-1-10. After surgery it still hurt. We have been to two hand specialists and the bone is in two pieces. The first doctor told us he could fix it and possible pin another bone that has been displaced. The doctor we saw yesterday said he could take the pain away but my son could possibly lose more range of motion and he may eventually need reconstructive surgery.  

Looking for advice and a recommendation for a hand doctor in South Florida. My son is too young for only taking care of the pain.

Hi there!

It would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation without the relevant clinical details or without a detailed clinical evaluation. On a general note old injuries are difficult to heal. It would be difficult to comment what sort of procedure would suit the best in the case. I would suggest getting this evaluated by an experienced orthopedician for suggestion of an appropriate management plan.
