37 degree scoliosis

Hi, im dondu. I have been diagnosed with a 37 degree scoliosis at the age of 16. My birthdays in febuary i will soon be 17. My orthoepeadic told me they cannot do anything because im over the age of 15 (the age girls stop growing apperently). So i was only suggested pysiothearpy however i have so much higher back pain, which bothers me SO much. Ive had psyiothearpy before and i am well aware that it does not help me in anyway. They sent me for an MRI scan and ive not heard of them ever since, i guess the results are normal. I cannot stand the pain though, is this pain normal? Can there be anything else? Or is surgery suitable, if i want the surgery what would i have to do? Im so confused.

Hi again!
If is still painful and uncomfortable, a brace can be worn; though it would not be beneficial for the scoliosis curve as in a younger age group but it may be used if recommended. I would discussing it with your treating doctor.
Hope this is useful.

Take care!

Hey Dondu!

A 37° scoliosis is unlikely to progress post puberty and physiotherapy is the correct management in such cases, as suggested by your doctor. If you continue to have pain or discomfort, one may consider a spinal brace for relief in addition to physiotherapy. A surgery would have its own set of complications and is only advised for severe cases. You may like to discuss the management in detail with your orthopedician.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
