5th Metatarsal Fracture

In February, 2008 I fractured my 5th metatarsal from front to back, quite widely open.  I wore the boot that went up to the knee for 6-8 weeks.  Here it is nearly September & the fracture is still quite bad & so is the pain.  My podiatrist wants me to wait & not have surgery.  I can't explain how this has "cramped my style" & caused me so much pain.  I am an active 56-year-old woman who has worked out all my life.

Can anything be done more than is being done?  I need help.

Thank you.

Hello LadyPam912,

Reconsult your doctor for surgery. Surgery would be the best suited option as what is an absolute must is re alignment of the bone. Earlier it is better it is. Get an X ray done to know the extent of surgery. In the meanwhile take some pain killer like diclofenac or ibuprofen.
