ACL & Meniscul tear

Hi,
I am a student & a working professional. I suffered a knee injury a year back a week after a back injuiry (spondylolisthesis) at L5-S1. For the spline injuiry I am continuing my physiotherapy.
Now, after a year ; my doctor says after due examination that there a complete ACL tear along with Meniscal tear & that I need to undergo a ACL replacement surgery.
I have no problem with the  injuiry, but my problem is , I have my study & examinations in continuous succession for next 4 months & hence I would like to delay my surgery by 4 months.

My question is; can I delay the surgery by 4 months? If yes is it going have any sort of physical or future problems in my knee.
My present condition is I can walk, but cannot run. Sometimes (occasionally ) I feel a buckling or sideward/ backward bending symptom during twisting of my knee, which is much less when actually the injuiry occured a year back.

I have stopped all my sports activities a year back but would like to continue after due recovery time.

Request a wise help as I have to take a quick & wise decision.

Dear Vinod,
Thanks for the kind information.
I communicated to my doctor about all my schedules, he said that delaying the operation might further increase the meniscal tear as ACL is completely torn out. I have started using my knee support (exoskeleton) so as to transfer minimum weight to the joint.
Just need to know whether it will after me in future if the operation is done after 4 months and if the torn meniscus is removed by operation will the remaining portion be capable of taking my body load in running & sports kind activities.
Also he made it clear that he won't be using a biodegradable screw for ACL replacement, instead he'll be using a metallic screw, whether is that going to create any futuristic problem in my daily sports routine after the ligaments have completely healed.

Regards,
Nilesh V.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

With restrictive movements and also by using a brace at your knee joint you can have an elective surgery after 4 months. It is not an emergency and you can explain your surgeon about this and take a suitable date and take the necessary tips from your orthopedician so that you do not damage it any further.

Take care!
