ACL Torn since I was 8 years old: 23 now

Hello everyone.

When I was about 8 or so, I had two injuries to both of my knees. They both have torn ACLs. Surgery has never been performed on them before.

I'm 23 years old now, and I've been waiting to have surgery since I was 8.
Is it normal to wait this long for doctors to do surgery?

Studies have shown improved results when ACL reconstruction surgery is delayed several weeks from the time of injury.
We hear about blown ACL ligaments all the time in sports. It requires surgery and a long recovery time.
ACL surgery is done arthroscopically, which is a less invasive type of surgery. Only small incisions are made which can reduce recovery time for the patient .
Physical rehabilitation after ACL surgery may take several months to a year.
Discuss with your orthopaedician and go for it, bygones are bygones. Take care!
