ACL attached to PCL

ACL attached to PCL

I was training for my 3rd half marathon in 3 months and began feeling pain and soreness behind my knee after I completed training runs.  I rested it for about a month and it felt better after a while.  I tested it out again and had the same soreness come back.  My doctor prescribed an MRI which showed that at some point in my life I tore my ACL.  Since the original injury, that tear has attached and completely heald to the PCL.  The only knee injury I can remember happened 25 years ago or so.  Since then I have had a very athletic lifestyle and had no problems.  The ACL tear was not previously diagnosed when I was younger.  The doc said the pain i feel is due to overuse and is within the muscles in the knee which are trying to add additional stabilization to my knee since the ACL is not fully intact.  Full reconstruction is an option, but he does not recommend unless the pain never goes away.  Has anyone else heard of this?  He also recommended a knee brace, but since I've never had this pain in my life, i'm thinking it is just a flare up and will go away on it's on with rest.  Other thoughts?

Another useful aid is a knee ice compression wrap.  It will stop pain and swelling and is a lot less restrictive than a brace.

Coldone knee wraps are effective and affordable.
