ACL rupture with disruption

I am sushil guria age 30 male, from guwahati, recently i twisted my left knee while playing football. Dr. recommend after studying MRI scan to go for arthroscopy.

My MRI report says
MRI study of left knee
Sequences obtained
PDFS axial, Sagittal and coronal
T1 Sagittal and coronal

Mild intrameniscal increased signal intensity is noted in the posterior horn of medial meniscus. Rests of meniscal horns are normal in signal intensity. There is mild extrusion of the medial meniscus.
There is ruptured anterior cruciate ligament with increased signal intensity. PCL is buckled.
There is increased signal intensity in the vicinity of MCL. Mild increased signal intensity is noted in the caudal aspect of the fibular collateral ligament.
The joint capsule appears intact. There is T2 hyperintense fluid collection in the suprapetellar bursa and joint space. No evidence of any capsular or synovial thickening is seen.
There is T2 hyperintense signal intensity in the lateral tibial condyle- suggestive of marrow edema/ bone contusion. Rests of the periarticular bones are normal in signal intensity. Patella is normal in signal intensity.
Hoffa pad of fat reveals normal signal intensity.
IMPRESSION: Study reveals ACL rupture with disruption. There is marrow edema/ bone contusion in the lateral tibial condyle. There is grade II sprain of LCL and grade I sprain of MCL. There are collections in and around the knee joint as described.

Now I have no pain while walking, feeling slight instability. pain while bending my knee or while i sit on ground. can not bend my knee. Its almost a month now.

My queries are
1. Can I avoid arthroscopic surgery in my case.
2. and a Second opinion?

Thanks for your reply. How long this surgery takes. How many days? I want to know what is the recovery time after surgery in terms of whether i can join office or it take time.

Hi there!

Though a surgery may be avoided it would be recommended with the type of injury described and considering that you are a football player. If in doubt you may seek a second opinion with another orthopedician.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
