Achilles Tendonitis

I think I've developed achilles tendonitis. I'm a 69 year old overweight female, not in the best shape but I do strengthening exercises and use the recumbent bike twice a week. I've been using the bike for 20 minutes a time 2x week. I've also tried the eliptical for 5-8 minutes a time. I do the strengthening the same days.  I've had pain in the achilles tendon for about a month and it seems to be getting worse. What is causing it (I don't run) and what should I do to treat it?
