Achilles Tendonitis

I have been struggling with Achilles tendonitis for a few months, after a high ankle sprain and a possible slight tear in the tendon, although this has never been confirmed. I am under the care of a Ortho, M.D. and have had some physical therapy  There is not much if any pain involved anymore but there is still a good amount of thickness through the achilles tendon compared to the normal looking tendon on my other calf.  My question is, eventually does this thickness go away?  Has it gone away in other paitents with time?  Will it go away if the person is still actively using the leg for light sports activities?  I am seeking other opinions because I haven't got a good answer from my MD.
Thank you..

Hello dentonm,
if you have got thickness around the tendoachillis, it can be due to some calcificaition around the tendon. We call this condition as PUMP BUMP.
I need you to tell me whether
1) this thickness around your tendon near the attachment of the achillis tendon and
2) Is it firm to hard in feeling??

answer  me in this forum soon so that i can reply you back,
regards

The thickness starts where it is attached to the calf muscle and stops prior to attachment to the heel.  I has been hard but mostly spongy and gristly.
I have posted a picture of this on my profile.  Thanks

hi dear friend,
well it looks more like a Goose bump (Hagelund's Bump) over that region. It's due to constant wear and tear of the tendo achillis over the attachment site along with good regenerative power of the tendon, resulting into hardening of the tendon.

I would like you to eat some anti-inflammatory  drugs along with physiotherapy of the ankle.
1) Every morning stretch up your heels about 50 times. Repeat it 2-3 times every 6-8 hourly in full day till you go to sleep.
2) Also do stretching up of your soles of foot.

If it doesn't improves, then do tell me.

Anti-inflamatories are important , otherwise yu will have severe pain in initial episodes of the physiotherapy.
