My Dad had a double Knee replacement in March. He is 61 years old and he weighed about 112 kilos. He had respitory trouble in theatre and was in and out of ICU after surgery due to low Bp, when he went into rehab he had 2 what he called ''breakdowns'' due to his incapabilities as he was growing impatient with the amount of improvement and progress he was making. Now he is home, he has dropped to 107 kilos but is very melancholy. He has seen his Gp and he prescribed a mood elevator of some sort but being old School, dad is not taking them. He was on Ozycondon and Endone for the pain but they were causing nausea with certain foods and he hardly ate. He is now off the pain killers and is moving as much as he can when he has the enregy, but he is still having pain. Are there any herbal/natural alternatives out there for those two drugs?
The most important thing to get a successful post knee replacement surgery result is to consider intense physiotherapy for a period of 1-3 months after the surgery. He has to maintain proper body weight, maintain normal BMI and he also has to continue regular exercises to stay fit and mobile.
He has to follow up with a psychiatrist to get a proper prescription for his depression and he also needs appropriate counselling. He should follow up with a personal physiotherapist and work hard to make the TKR procedure successful. He would need you and your family members to support him.
