Ankle injury?

In 2006 I fell down stairs and sprained my ankle-- torn ligaments too. Recently my ankle has swelled up again (no re-injury) and I have sharp pains across the top of my ankle when I flex my foot towards my body. I can walk on it with some pain and the swelling goes down at night or when elevated.
X-rays show no break in the tib or fib...
Should I treat it as a sprain and do I need to stay off of it?

Possible injuries?
- Talus dome fracture?
- Cartilage damage?

(I am active, healthy, 115lbs and 29 years old)

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

Treat yourselves conservatively. Wear an ankle brace or a support and try to give rest to the affected ankle for 3-4 days. Restrict physical activity and exertion on the affected ankle joint. Apply ice packs and also take NSAIDs to get the swelling and pain under control.

If the pain and discomfort continues then you may need an MRI for diagnosis and also it important that you follow up with a foot specialist or an orthopedician.

Take care!
