Appropriate Knee Support (post ACL recon).

My intentions are to play basketball on a casual basis (once a week). Only problem is I have had a cruiciate ligament reconstruction done 10 years ago which didn't bond to well leaving my knee rather loose (laterally). This has also resulted in both cartlidges being torn in the same knee due to a poor choice of exercise (stair running). I am now ready to start playing sport like basketball and maybe low impact aerobics, so I was hoping someone could help me choose an appropriate knee support that:
1. Cuts down on lateral movement.
2. Lessens impact to my cartlidge.
3. Can be warn in semi-contact sports like basketball without hurting others in collisions.
Please bear in mind I am 1.97m and 113kg.

Any brand name / models etc would be appreciated :-)

Before you buy a brace, please check out Ebay.  After my ACL repair, I had to wear a Bledsoe brace that cost my insurance co. $2,000.  I checked on line, the same exact brace was selling for $20.00.  Of course, it was slightly used, but looked new!  If you are paying for the brace yourself, it would certainly be worth your checking.  I know they have the Donjoy braces too.  Good luck !

I had ACL reconstruction in both knees this year - first one in April and second one in August.  My doctor recommended braces made by Donjoy.  I wore them religiously for about 4 months after surgery, and still wear one on the August knee when doing heavy yardwork or if I'll be walking all day.  I am told that they are used by professional athletes after surgery.  I'm sure there are other companies that make similar products.  Hope this helps.   Lynmed
