Approx. how much time am I looking at?

Approx. how much time am I looking at?

I fractured my fibula a few days ago. I was given a splint and sent home to wait until tomorrow to see if I need surgery. When I use my crutches to get around I can only stand for about 10 secs. and then my foot is throbbing and in extreme pain, also the top of my foot is very very tender and sore at all times. Why is that part of my foot in more pain than my leg/ankle?
I was wondering if I get surgery how long I will be off my feet. Also if I do not get surgery how long that will be. Is there anything I can do besides sit with my foot up in the same position 24/7? My whole body hurts from sitting like this all the time.

Fractures of fibula are one of the most difficult ones to cure.
In children it unites easily but with adults if the fracture is simple and aligned and does not have any major complications then 12 weeks in a cast.
With surgery and internal fixation it would take 12 - 16 weeks for the healing to complete followed by Physiotherapy due to stiffness etc.

The pain is due to injury and inflammation and it will subside with treatment. Take intermediate analgesics for the pain and wait for the proper course of treatment and follow your Orthopaedician'e advice. Take care!
