Arthroscopy

I had a arthroscopy done on my knee 7 days ago. I am having sharp stabbing pains in the knee when I walk. Is this normal and will go away in time. I have a follow up appointment next week.

hi jenn1959,
thanks for giving more details.
So you have underwent arthroscopic debridement for knee arthritis. Your doctor has done small cleaning work in your knee. This is the reason for pain while walking, as the new surface created is naive and is reacting to pain due to sensitivity.
I prefer for 5-7 days of full time pain medications as it helps a lot. I would advice you to take propoxypnene continously for 3-4 days and see the difference.

Keep us posted,

I was given propoxyphene for lesser pain and Hydrocodone if the pain is greater.  I only take the pain pills if the pain is really bad. I haven't taken any pain pills in the last 3 days. As for my therapy I am doing the exercises I was told to do like the (straight leg raises and knee extension) I can bend my knee really well so I do have the flexaiblity . For being almost 50 I am in good phyiscal shape (except for my knees ) Before the surgery I did 45 minutes on the Elliptical 3 days a week and other strength exercises the other 2 days. The arthroscopy was done on my left knee which is almost bone on bone. He cleaned out the torn Meniscus the best he could and also removed a loose body that was moving around in there. He said I am probably looking at having a TKP within a year to a year and a half.  As soon as my left knee becomes strong enough I will be having a TKP on my right knee , which is already bone on bone. I have gone through the MRI's and many Xrays and two different doctors to come to this conclusion. I am just hoping that the stabbing pain I feel in my knee when I walk will eventually go away.

hi jenn1959,
this is a common type of pain pattern seen in many patients following Arthroscopy of the knee. Main reason is improper pain medications or poor post operative rehabilitation.
SO do meet your doctor as soon as possible.
Since you have to wait for more than a week to meet him, i can help you.
You need to tell me what medications are you on and what physiotherapy you are doing now along with your diagnosis and procedure done for the same.

So post it soon.
