Back Pain and Not Knowing What To Do

Back Pain and Not Knowing What To Do

Hi,
I injured myself at work in November of 2009. I fractured my T12. The first week in January I had Kyphoplasty where they fill the vertebra with cement. I have since been back and forth with my work comp. spine Neurologist, and he said the Kyphoplasty looks ok. Well, I'm not okay, and I am still in pain in that area plus I have severe pain in the lumbar region. I can only stand on my feet for a little while and then I have to sit with my feet propped up. The latest MRI showed I had a Schmorl's Node at T10 which was not on the previous MRI'S. Also, I have mild superior endplate flattening in the lower T spine, and nerve roots that are contacted and compromised in L4 & L5, along with disc bulging throughout the lower spine disc. There are allot of other things the MRI report says, but I picked out just a few.
I have an appointment with my daughters Neurosurgeon on April 7TH, to talk about everything except the T12 fracture, because that is what Work comp is paying for at this time.I have been off work for 3 months, and I really need to go back to work. Any ideas as to what may be causing the severe pain in my mid back, and right and left mid back and lumbar area?  My name is Jane and I am 58.  Thanks

Hello!

The Schmorl's node is due to the wear and tear and it is more obvious with aging.

With lumbar vertebra changes in your MRI you can have pain in the lower back. I would suggest you to take NSAIDs and apply hot compress regularly.

I would also suggest you to follow proper ergonomics and limit further damage.

Wear proper foot wear and also follow up with an orthopedician.

Take care!
