Bone Healing

Bone Healing

I am a novelist writing a novel where the protagonist is in the hospital for 8 weeks after a rollover accident in a Montero.

I am having a really hard time getting information on how long bones take to heal.  I was hoping anyone could help me with understanding how long bones can heal in a hospital enviornment.  I would really appreciate it.

Basically my goal is for the protagonist to suffer a linear fracture in the skull, and suffer enough bone injuries in the left site to be in the hospital for 8 weeks and be in crutches for 4 weeks.

However, I don't know how many much damage the poor fellow has to suffer for this to be a realistic time frame, and I don't know how bone injuries such as cracked ribs are handled in a hospital setting.

I recognize that :
1.  Injuries heal slightly differently for each person based upon general health.
2.  Age can affect healing rate (in this case it is a 26 year old man in generally good health).

Is there anyone who can give me any idea of what sort of bone damage a 26 year old man would need to suffer to need 8 weeks healing in a hospital, and 4 weeks in crutches?  And for those injuries, how in general are they treated in a hospital setting?

Thanks ahead!
