Broke lower arm resulted in titanium plate put in
Is it possible to reject titanium plate used as 2 bones in lower arm & what are the symptoms? I have developed 2 knots and a constant throbbing 2 years after surgery. Sudden onset.

Hi there!

Titanium is a very inert metal, and an immune rejection is very rare (I haven’t seen a major rejection, and just a single case of questionable mild immune reaction). The knots are likely to be due to fibrosis and scar formation or due to other few reasons. With constant throbbing, possible pressure on the blood vessels (direct/ indirect) would need to be ruled out. I would suggest consulting your treating orthopedician for a detailed evaluation and suggestion of an appropriate management plan.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
