Broken elbow - 20 years later.

Broken elbow - 20 years later.

I fractured my humerus at the elbow when I was child about 20 years ago. I'm not sure on the exact classification of the break either a Supracondylar Humerus Fracture or a Condylar Humerus Fracture. Surgery was not conducted on the elbow, no pins or plates were inserted, just a cast. I remember that at the time it didn't set correctly the first time and had to be reset.

The elbow has visible deformity as well as pain, I've had to give up sports and avoid visiting the gym due to this. I have ongoing symptoms of both tennis and golfers elbow as well as a tight tricep with pain and tightness extending to my back. I was told by an osteopath that my spine was being pulled to one side due to the the tightness originating in the elbow.

I've visited a physiotherapist as well as an osteopath to seek relief however this is just placing a band aid on the problem, with only temporary relief if anything being achieved. I visited a local orthopedic surgeon 3 years ago who told me that if he had treated the elbow he would of pinned the injury, and that I should avoid physical activity, with a high prospect of arthritis in the joint.

However I am young and feel as though I am not able to do things I would love to do, I have a love of outdoor activities, and I feel as though my elbow is holding me back from physical activities. Please help with any suggestions and recommendations.

I have similar issues. I had a bad elbow break when I was 10 and did not have pins. It had to be reset a year later. However, I was told it healed properly. Now at 57 I have arthritis and shooting pain at night. The arm is strength compromised (a problem in my carpentry job) but I still try to find relief through proper weight and diet. I use hydrotherapy at home but that's all. Any suggestions would be appreciated as it seems to be getting worse.

Hi, I advise you to go the second orthopedic surgeon and ask if the x ray suggests deformity. Also ask if he could help with some surgery to release the tightness in the elbow. The treatment of tennis elbow and golfer elbow is supportive with ice and a brace. The complication of arthritis is real one to keep watch on. It is likely that joint injuries cause changes to load-transmission through weight-bearing bones and this may play a role in development of the arthritic condition. This issue can be discussed with surgeon along with the Physical therapist/occupational therapist. Regards

I broke my elbow many years ago and they only put it in a cast. But its obvious that it healed wrong and there is deformity. I have pain and numbness that extends from my elbow to my pinky finger constantly for many years. The feeling in my finger is hard to explain, it just doesnt feel right. I'm wondering if they are going to have to reset the bone and if this pain and numbness will go away.:( I'm only 18 and Im sadly limited to what I can do physically.
