Broken knuckle?

This past week I punched my dresser and my knuckle immediately swelled up, the pain was bad at the time, but it didn't last too long. Well, yesterday I (stupidly) punched a rock wall, and it felt different, worse. It is my right index finger's knuckle (at the hand) and it is only a little swollen. However, it makes almost a grinding/squeaky sound when it bends (that you can actually hear and feel). I can move it all the way, even though it feels tender/sore. But if I physically touch the knuckle in a certain area on the top, it's extremely painful and it lasts a few seconds. It almost hurts so bad it burns after. What does this sound like to you, because I've been researching this and I'm confused! Do you think it is a bone problem, a tendon/ligament problem or just a deep bruise? Thanks.
