I have an "egg" on the top of my right hand in line with my pinky. It's a hard mass that feels like a bruise when touched however there are no marks or color changes. I noticed it 3 days ago because of the pain and now the knuckle near it is itchy. It sometimes gets bigger during the day (I a right-handed). Should I be worried?
The swelling could be a ganglion or ganglion cyst. This can arise due to repetitive use of joint or due to rheumatoid arthritis or sometimes without a cause too. It is usually a swelling in the tendon of a muscle.
If the lump is felt along vein then it can also be clot in vein called deep vein thrombosis. A third possibility is a neurofibroma (benign collection of nerves and fibrous tissue).
Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care!

Thank you for your input, it's much appreciated!. The pain was starting to radiate through my arm as an annoying tired feeling...the same sort of feeling you get when you get writer's cramp. Needless to say, I did finally go see my doctor yesterday, but I felt like it was a waste of time. She said it didn't look/feel like a ganglion cyst, but more of a bruise, even though there is no discoloration or trauma that I can think of. She said vessels can randomly burst and if it's deep enough, I wouldn't see anything. She informed me to take anti-inflammatories and to put a hot compress on it a couple of times/day and if it doesn't start going down in ANOTHER week, then to come back for an x-ray.
