Bursitis

Hi

I have posted on here on another subject but would like advice about Hip Bursitis. I have been attending an Orthopedic surgeon for about a year now who is adament I need a THR. The trouble is I have been reading about hip Bursitis and I am now convinced this is what is wrong with my hip. The only differance is I don't have any swelling on my right hip. It is sore to touch sore when I walk I walk with a limp. I use a walking stick to eleviate the pain. I had a local anaeathic and steroid injection done on Thursday I was pain free for about 24 hour then the pain camr back with a vengance.

I would appreciate any advice form anyone who has this condition.

Thankyou in advance for any advice.

Hello!

I would suppose in all probability that you suffer from trochanteric bursitis of the hip as you have difficulty in walking.

What is the valuable reasoning your orthopedician is giving about THR? Why total hip replacement is required?

I would suggest you to take a second opinion.
Go for complete conservative treatment.
Noninfectious or aseptic hip bursitis can be treated with ice compresses, rest, and anti inflammatory and pain medications.  Noninfectious hip bursitis can be treated with an injection of cortisone  with or without an anesthetic, into the swollen bursa.

Surgery can be the final option and the bursa as such as no use and can be removed. The surgery is called bursectomy and it can be done by arthroscopic intervention.

Take care!
