Can Schmorl's nodes cause acute back pain?

Can Schmorl's nodes cause acute back pain?

I injured my back several years ago. The injury was a torque twisting event to the lumbar spine. There were no breaks or herniated disks shown on the x-rays, however, with an MRI there were schmorl's nodes on the L1, L2, L3 and L4. that were not there prior to this injury. I have been in pain since that time and need to know if this acute pain could be caused by the verticle disk herniations known as schmorl's nodes? I take tramadol 2 x 50 mg tabs 3 times a day for pain and it only takes the edge off. The pain, a burning and pressure type sensation, radiates down my lower back, across my rear and down the back of both legs to my heels. I cannot sit for any extended amount of time, laying down is bad too and I cannot stay asleep for more that 2 - 3 hours at a time because of pain. I can stand better than sitting or laying but still experience a the burning and pressure type of pain.
