Care and rehab tips post tibial open intramedullary nailing

The open intramedullary nailing of my left tibia shaft took place last Wednesday, that is 5 days after a tibial shaft fracture and upper tibial fracture resulting from a fall on ski blades.  My surgeon said that the operation was a success.  I left hospital two days later, with crutches and instructions not to put weight on the left leg for some 8 weeks.

Now on Day 4 post surgery, I take hydropmorphone HCI (G-16) 2mg about 4-6 times a day for pain mitigation -- yes, every few hours, I still feel as if some sharp knife was opening the tibia.  I also get a daily injection of Dalteparin Sodium to prevent blood clots. I keep my leg elevated as much as possible, softly wrapped with tensor bandage.

While I realize that accidents happen even when reasonable risks are taken, I am quite angry at myself for having gone snow blading as opposed to skiing -- the risks of a lower leg fracture would have been much reduced with skis.  I also feel very frail and am afraid of falling or bumping into things while using crutches. Yet I would like to resume the active lifestyle I have had as a normally fit 55 year old female, and this as soon as possible, and this involves walking, hiking, running, skiing, etc.

1. Would a lower leg air cast or some other shield be recommended for use on my left leg which cannot touch the ground, and can these be used in conjunction with the crutches?
2. What vitamins or supplements would be best to accelerate healing and mitigate risks of osteoporosis and arthritis?
3. What medical devices (e.g. ultrasounds, electrical stimulation) can effectively accelerate healing?
4. In 2 weeks, when I meet the orthopedic who will remove staples and take over post-operative care in my home town, what need we discuss regarding:  a) medical tests, X-rays, scans;  b) medication and supplements; c) physiotherapy and psychological coaching

Thank you in advance!
