Carpal Tunnel

by sue6151, Oct 06, 2009 12:19PM
I have had previous carpal tunnel surgery on my right wrist. I was told I have it again, but not only in my right wrist but also in my left. The pain in my left goes all the way to my elbow. What is the best solution for this.
Thank You,
Sue

Hello!

Go for proper diagnosis by nerve conduction tests and also clinically by your orthopedician to do both Tinel and Phalen tests.

Splinting or bracing, steroid injection, activity modification, physical therapy, medications, and surgical release of the transverse carpal ligament are the options you should try.
The choice of treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome depends on the severity of the symptoms and any underlying disease that might be causing the symptoms.
Initial treatment usually includes rest, immobilization of the wrist in a splint, and occasionally ice application. Patients whose occupations are aggravating the symptoms should modify their activities. For example, computer keyboards and chair height may need to be adjusted to optimize comfort.

Discuss and follow up in detail with your orthopedician.

Take care!
