Cervical Spondylosis / Aging Degeneration

Cervical Spondylosis
by Jamil1946, Jan 24, 2011 05:27AM

I have been suffering from pain in left shoulder blade, neck and right elbow. X-Ray report of Cervical Spine has revealed that posterior osteophyts formation at C5 , C6 is seen due to which disc spaces are reduced at the posterior lips of C5,6 and 7. I had undergone physiotherapy and traction was also applied to the neck for a week which has given relief for the time. Is there any procedure other than surgery such as laser etc. for removal / destruction of these osteophytes.

Thanks for your advice. Kindly elaborate the term "Intermittent". What would be the safe duration while taking steroid. Is there no side effect.

Hello!

For pain you can take intermittent NSAIDs and you can also consider warm and cold compress for your back. You can also wear back supports and consider intermittent steroid shots. You have to follow proper ergonomics and maintain a proper body weight for your height. Try to strengthen your back muscles.

If your symptoms do not decrease with the above conservative treatment protocols then you explore all options for surgery as you have reduced disc space and complications of cervical spondylosis.

Talk with an orthopedician or a neurosurgeon for surgical intervention.

Take care!
