Child tiptoeing

My 4 yr old (twin born13 weeks premature) walks on the tips of her toes about 99% of the time.  Other than this, there is nothing wrong with her or her sister.

Ortho told me that there is nothing wrong with her muscles or tendons, but this is purely habbitual, seeing that she can walk flat footed.  She is undergoing a small procedure end of this month which includes 6 weeks in full leg casts.  My question is this, what adverse effects will this have on her and in general how do children cope with this?
