Chronic Hip Bursitis

Hi, I have Fibro and chronic hip bursitis in both hips.  How often should I be getting cortisone injections?  They used to last 6 weeks but now only between 3 and 4.  Also, what exercise should I do that won't exacerbate the condition?  I don't have coverage for physical therapy but would you suggest Acupuncture?  I am not getting any sleep and can barely walk without waddling from side to side.

Hello!

You can benefit if you have hip bursitis by weight reduction, stretching exercises and by wearing proper footwear and following proper exercise schedules.

You should avoid hills and stairs and direct pressure on your affected hip.

Continue corticosteroids if it is beneficial to you and also go for repeated aspiration of the infected fluid in case you have septic bursitis. Surgical drainage and removal of the infected bursa sac (bursectomy) may also be necessary.

Talk with an orthopedician and I think acupuncture will not be of major help.

Take care!
