Coccyx pain after 2 failed fusion surgeries

After my second fusion L5-S1(2005) I am in extreme coccyx pain.  I've been to chiropractor who says tailbone is 'misaligned' and showed me how to move the tailbone back into place.  I've had several injections, tried the spinal cord stimulator...you name it, and I still can't sit for more than 5 mins. without the pain.  I saw my pain management doctor today and asked him about removal of the tailbone.  He's referred me to an orthopaedic surgeon.  I understand from my doctor that the coccyx removal part of the surgery is relatively easy; however the healing could take up to a year. I have two questions:  what can go wrong during the surgery (being so close to the bowel) and WHAT PERCENTAGE is the success rate.

I look forward to your reply and thank you for your attention.

You should try conservative treatment and when your pain cannot be healed by your sustained effort and also your Physiotherapist has no clues then only go for surgery!
For surgery opt for a good surgeon and facility which will minimize  infections and complications. Success rate is good but remember that even if 0.1% effected, if you are the one then it is 100% for you. So in surgeries it is always good to be following asceptic measures and going to a a good facility with experienced hands. Take care!
