Compulsive toe curling

I have been a regular exerciser for years including the elliptical machine but over the last few months when I use the elliptical trainer my toes on my right foot involuntarily curl up and it makes it impossible to keep exercising.

Hey I'm back after a long time. After many doctors I ended up at a neurologist who believes I have Parkinson's Disease. Apparently I have dytonia which is a presenting symptom of PD. I hope they're wrong but I also have noticed my right arm does not swing when I walk like it used to and that is apparently a PD classic symptom. I'm 47 so I am prett young for this but apparently it does occur. So I guess I will move over to the movement disorder forum. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Stubydoo,
How are you feeling?
What symptoms you are having? Did you go to an orthopaedician? If yes, what treatment is planned for you?
Can you give us a little detail about your condition to help us in better understanding the condition?
Keep me posted.
Bye.

hello
i have the same problem even when driving, jainmd is right in saying you need to be not concious of doing this, maybe what you could look into is the babinski test (rough spelling). i have in the last 3 years suffered 2 prolapsed discs due to exertion and have probably caused some damage to my nerves in my back so i suggest you calm down on the elliptical exercisng as this could compound any forthcoming injuries your not aware of just yet.
good luck and hope to hear your alright soon

Thanks for the feedback. I have tried focusing on the foot and tried not focusing and still have the same problem. I will go to a doctor and see about an x-ray.

Hi,
I think you should be putting extra stress or weight on toes to get grip while doing exercise. I think that is the case.
Don't be conscious while doing exercise and see, whether it happens again or not.
If this does not help then you should be taking an x-ray and see if there is an outward growth causing toes to curl.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
