Confused with cause of pain

I am not sure that the topic of ths question should be Osteoarthritis. I am an active 43 year old male, 5 foot 9 inches, 175 pounds, married, 2 daughters. Up until 6 months ago I was jogging a couple of times a week. I ran two 5k races in 2010 both in about 30 minutes each. I also played pick up basketball. In the summer, after feeling some shooting pains in my legs at night in bed after some basketball games I decided to go to my doctor. He took some Xrays and it was determined I had moderate osteoarthritis in both hips. I followed up with an orthopedic doctor and they confirmed.  I decided to change my lifestyle and stop jogging and playing basketball. I had no pain in my legs when I was not playing sports. About 2 months ago I started feeling pain in my legs after prolonged sitting. I am an accountant and work in an office environment sitting down a good portion of the day. The pain is usually when I sit and in my buttocks, front thighs, sometimes on the side next to hips and sometimes near my knees. I also felt tingling below my knees sometimes. It is very difficult to even decribe where the pain is. There is no skin redness near my hips and I can walk for over an hour without pain. I attributed the pain to osteoarthritis. About 3 weeks ago I hurt my back severely bending down after getting out of the shower. I went to the ER b/c of the severe pain. They prescribed pain killers and muscle relaxers. I went to see my doctor and he said he thought the leg pains was not related to the hips. He took lower back and hip Xrays and found nothing in the back and no change in hips condition from the summer Xrays. He referred me back to the orthopedic doctor. My back is improving but I still feel some pain throughout my legs. I still feel some stomach pulls from time to time. The hips feel fairly strong. I am not sure what is causing this pain, if it is related to ostearthritis, sciatica, hip bursitis??? I've been searching all over the internet and it is just confusing. I have started swimming at the neighborhood park district pool in order to stay in shape without the wear and tear. I have noticed about a 3% improvement per week the last 3 weeks. I am delaying going to the doctor b/c of the expense and juggling other financial issues. Any help is much appreciated.
