De Quervain surgery questions

by siapap, Aug 06, 2008 04:31PM
Hi,  I am having surgery tomorrow on my left wrist for deQuervain's.  I have a 1 1/2 year old, I'm a single mom.  I have lots of help available to me, but I'm just curious to how long until I might be able to do some normal things?  Any suggestions on what to expect, things to have on hand, etc?

Surgery is only option after 2 rounds of PT, splinting and 2 cortisone shots.

Thanks!
Sia

4-6 weeks after surgery you can start doing light normal activities 8 weeks start strengthing 10-12 weeks normal activities or at least that is how my hand surgeons I have worked for do it. some may do the process faster. with this surgery donot expect to be pain free it can be but most I have seen it just makes you have a decrease in pain to a tolerable level. hope it goes good for you
