Dislocation/Broken Finger

My son dislocated/fractured his middle finger May 15th, 2010 at a wrestling tourney. He is 13 and will be getting the cast off June 2nd. Dr says he can resume wrestling asap, however, I am a little leary. The State tournament is June 5th (Saturday) which would be a total of 3 wks in a cast. I do not want to put him in harms way of an even bigger injury by wrestling him too soon. He really wants to go and is the forerunner for a State Title. Are we overly optimistic or is the Dr? Any advice would be appreciated. Concerned parent.

If the healing is good then he can go for full practice after 4 weeks from the removal date of his cast.

I have to be blunt here, he will not be allowed by his orthopedician to resume practice at least for 4 weeks after the cast is removed, considering his age and expecting a faster recovery.

He will have stiffness after the removal of cast, he would need physiotherapy for couple of weeks and with time the strength of his bone will increase, but he can protect his fractured finger by some plaster or buddy wrapping, then his orthopedician may allow him.
