Disproportionate skeletal growth

by gallardox, Jun 04, 2009 05:07AM

I found out 7 months ago that I have disproportionate skeletal growth...my legs are relatively tall when compared with my trunk...(disproportionate limb/trunk ratio)...I'm 20 years old and 181 cm tall...this sentence explains it a little "I'm shorter when I sit down"

*How this affects my life:

Well many may see this as not big of a deal but believe me it hurts me emotionally knowing that I have such a defect in my body...I can't pick clothes properly I always have problems when trying them on or buying them...people give me weird looks in the street...my self-confidence is gowing down big time...I always feel different when I'm with people...like they're all normal and I'm not...this has been bothering me for a long time now and I can't talk about it to anybody...I tried talking about it to my father but he didn't care and he told me to forget it...

*I just want to ask if there are any methods to fix this, does medicine provide a way to alter bone growth after bone ossification (20 years old) ?

*What is the cause of this ? what hormones, glands, or genetic factors ?

*Is this common in people ?

Best regards

To: Dear Gallardox,
You can increase the length of your legs by ilizarov technique but not "vice versa"
Surgically it is not possible to increase your upper body length. Hormones also act as a whole and it is difficult to increase only the upper body leaving the lowe body. Drugs & Hormones are also injurious to you on long run.
Every individual is special and at your age it is very difficult, i understand and without any medical or surgical defect it is not good to go for medical interventions. You are healthy and normal Take care!
