Do I have a misdiagnosis of carpal tunnel?

About 8 months ago, I started waking up every morning with my right hand asleep, tingling like crazy. It got worse to the point where I would wake up and couldn't go back to sleep, it would be hard to grip objects for a little while after I woke up, my fingers felt swollen, but they weren't. I went to the doctor and got a diagnosis of carpal tunnel. I had no symptoms during the day, only sleeping hand at night, which was corrected by a brace. I've been wearing this brace for 8 months at night, if I skip it...my hand will be asleep at night again. A few months after diagnosis, I had random and weird sudden tingling sensations shooting down my wrist to my hand when grabbing objects. This was off and on. Then I began having bad wrist pain when moving my wrist in any direction. My wrist would hurt maybe 3 days out of 7 of the week, but no symptoms the other days. This continued for months. I also had sporadic, but not common "sleeping" fingers when I woke up on both hands. Sometimes it would be just my pinky and ring finger, sometimes the other fingers. I had a time of 2 months with no pain at all, just wore my brace at night. Now I'm back to horrible wrist pain with any motion and even pain in my elbow at one point. I went back to the doctor about 3 months after my original diagnosis. The doctor did the test for carpal tunnel again where you push the back of your hands together and see if you get tingling in the hand. I had no tingling in my hand. The doctor said since he cannot elicit any symptoms when I'm not having "a flare up", he can't do much for me. My main problem is that when I have a flare up, my wrist hurts really bad. The pain is in the back of my wrist. It mainly hurts if I bend my wrist forward or backwards (feels like it's impossible to move past a certain point and if I try to, the pain is much worse.) it hurts to press on the back of my wrist as well. Anyone else have similar issues???
