Hi, epicondylitis is inflammatory condition of tendons at elbow. Although, it can be treated with pain killers, cold compressions, physiotherapy, splint etc but at times Intra-articular glucocorticoid steroid injections are given for acute exacerbations. These can  resolve episodes for several months, but there is a risk of later recurrence.

Following an injection, the patient normally experiences increased pain next day but as inflammation settels down, pain also get tapered off. There is a small risk of local infection and tendon rupture. Usually, doctors try two injections.Steroids are for symtomatic relief as they are potent ant inflammatory drugs but they don't alter disease pathology.
