I have an avulsion fracture of my right ankle which occured when I rolled my ankle playing tennis the first day of tennis camp.  I'm in an air cast and on crutches for 4 weeks - which really kills my summer tennis.  My ankle doesn't hurt and there is no swelling.  The fracture was diagnosed by X-ray.  Do I have to keep off my foot for 4 weeks?

Thanks!

If that's what your doctor is telling you, I'd follow his instruction. If you doubt his/her advice, then go to another physician that's specialty is in that area. Any other advice from someone that's NOT a physician will be unqualified and *could* result in serious problems later, possibly keeping you from tennis, not to say a multitude of other things, altogether.

Is that something you're willing to risk??? With your ankle being weakened, you could tear tendons or ligaments which might not heal or be 'repairable'.  Or worse, fracture bones. Either might require surgery, resulting in more serious complications. Ultimately, it's your decision. What are you willing to sacrifice for the short-term convenience? You walk on this 50% of the time, the other ankle the other 50% of the time. IMHO, one lost summer of tennis isn't much when you might lose another 20 for not following that advice.

Having fallen twice in the last 6 months myself and dislocating my wrist, the likely option is fusing the wrist. Pretty serious steps and scaring the bejeesus outta me. Are you willing to go through something equally as serious????
