Fractured pinkey?

by LaLa0812, Oct 05, 2009 07:59PM
My 5 year old daughter complained last week about her pinkey finger being sore.  She said a classmate stepped on it while playing out in the playground.  I looked at it and noticed it was swollen to almost twice the size of her other one around the base of the finger and down the side of her hand.  I talked to my husband, who has had several sprains and broken bones in his lifetime, he said don't worry it is just bruised.  It took two days for the actual bruising to show.  It has now been about a week and and the swelling has not gone down.  Should I begin to worry that this is more than just a Bruised finger?  She dose not complain about it hurting unless she bumps it.  It is also not stopping her from playing like normal.

Dear LaLa0812,

Hello!

Take her for an X-ray and a pediatrician to correlate it to confirm that she did not have any fractures.
Give her some pain killers so that her pain and inflammation will decrease.

Follow up if required by putting a splint or buddy finger strapping by the advice of her pediatrician.

Take care!
