Fusing

I broke my ankle on my right foot in Dec 2007 I had surgery put plate and screws in. And then I ended up with Arthritis in my foot and they went back in and did more surgery to fuse the joint and put in more bolts in. I am more worse now then before I had the fusing done.

Question: Can you tell me why after fusing i walk worse then before the fusing?

It is due to the stiffness and you need exercises and Physioterapy for strengthening your muscles/tendons of foot and to take load.

Your normal anatomy and the movements have been disturbed due to the injury, surgeries etc.

For small bones/ligaments it is very difficult to heal and worse with age.
Ice packing regularly and Physiotherapy would help.

Also explore options for wearing boots to relieve pain, discuss with your orthopaedician. Take care!
