Ganglion Cyst - Anybody have this?

My 16yr old sees an Ortho on Tues for this.  She's had the lump on the wrist come/go for 6 weeks with and without pain and now it is severely painful, loss of range of motion, and the primary doc. said joint is inflammed.  The cyst itself pops up when she flexes her wrist downward and now is in Ace bandage and on NSAID for pain/inflammation.

Any experience, advice out there is much appreciated.

She has history of significant reactive arthritis so we don't want this to cause a flare of the wrist joint, either.

I had this and it went away on its on. I was put on a medicine which I can't remember what it was, Anyway they use to call it a bible cyst back in the day. They actually use to take a bible and hit it to break it. They also use to use a hammer! Well I just kept banging it against a wall often. Guess what? It went away! It may come back but if it does I will do the same thing! I would rather I do that than have surgery. I still have a slight bump but you can't tell at all. It also no longer bothers me. Good luck ~!

Thank you Wonko and Cat50 for your helpful posts to me.  Cat50 .. did you or did Wonko's husband have to have physical therapy after treatment?

I had a ganglion on my right wrist just below my right thumb area. It hurt to the touch and when I put preasure on it such as push at a door to open it. Had an operation on it and the pain left but the cyst came back. Still no pain so I have not had to do anything since for it.

I have one near my wrist, I've had it for about a year.  It is large enough to be easily noticed, but causes no pain or loss of motion, so I just let it be.  If it started to hurt, I would try aspiration first.  Hope your dd feels better soon!
