Ganglion cyst

Ganglion cyst

I think that I may have a Ganglion Cyst in my right wrist (I am right handed).  My father had one in his left wrist, he was left handed.  I first noticed the lump in my wrist after this last leaf raking season.  I can be sitting idle and have sharp shooting burning pains through my wrist, hand and forearm.  I have done extensive research but one symptom I have that I have not seen mentioned is this; I can not only feel but see my pulse in the lump.  Is this a Ganglion or something else.

It is very possible that this is a cyst, obviously without seeing it, it is difficult to tell. Most of the time these cysts are not a problem unless of course they cause pain. They can be removed or drained, but will likely grow back if only drained. The cyst may be laying right over an artery causing you to be able to see your pulse. Since it is painful you may want to go to the doctor just to have it looked at! Good luck!

Hello!

A proper physical examination is often all that is needed to diagnose a ganglion cyst.

Ultrasound will help evaluate if the bump is fluid-filled i.e. cystic or solid.
An aspiration by your physician will confirm a ganglion cyst.

If you have symptoms then your doctor may send you to a hand surgeon. Surgery is required if the bump is solid or involves a blood vessel or artery.

Take care!
