Gluteus Medius Tendon Rupture Surgery

I recently had surgery to repair a complete rupture of my Gluteus Medius Hip Tendon.  Three holes were drilled in my hip bone and the tendon was located and sutured into these holes.  A pig skin graft was used to help secure the sutures. Also I had a Bursectomy and a bone spur removed.

I would like to hear comments from anyone else who has gone through this.  How long post surgery to be pain free?   How is walking and climbing stairs?

This discussion is related to treatment for ruptured gl. medius tendon.

How long did you stay out of work?  I had planned to go back after a week to 2 weeks, but am a little concerned because I won't get any assistance.....wondering if I should take on a more "selfish" route to recovery and stay out longer..
Also developed swelling in the foot 8 days after surgery....did you experience this?

Take more time off... it’ll be very hard to get around because you cannot put any weight on your surgery side.

I have completely torn gluteus medius and minimus tendons.  I'm a 67 yr old woman who loves tennis and physical activity.  Do you know anyone in the St. Petersburg/Tampa Fl area who does this repair?

I’m 65, very active. It is a long recovery.  I am 4 weeks post surgery, very little pain. Using a walker and wearing a brace , PT. Expect 6 mos. to full recovery and activity I’m told. I’m in Ohio, so can’t advise a surgeon. I’m looking for a blog specific to gluteal tear surgery, I have a few suggestions/advice.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

For complete recovery for walking without any support you would need 6 months.

Surgical pain decreases after a month and some pain will be present with movement till 3 months. You can take intermittent NSAIDs.

The most important thing for you though is to maintain complete hygiene and avoid infections.

Take care!
