Great toe muscle weakness/absence of upward motion

Great toe muscle weakness/absence of upward motion

I had bil. bunionectomy with bil. 2nd toe hammertoe repairs on Dec. 22nd.  I'm doing well -- walking fairly well in regular shoes, however, my left great toe is a problem.  It does not tip down, but feels numb to move.  I have feeling and can bend it further downward, but am totally unable to "wiggle" it or move it upward.  I can feel the tendon trying to pull it, but there is no response.  I am able to move the right big toe without problem.  There is also more pain upon bending the toe and walking.  This is the toe that was an easier repair and has a screw in it.  The right was the worse of the two, would not accept a screw, and a k-wire was used (removed last week)
My question:  What's wrong?  My physician states this is a weak tendon.  If so why and what can I do.  I feel like this toe almost "flops".
